Energy Vampires was an american group born from the ashes of Slauter Xstroyes created by the vocalist Jonathan Stewart. Shadow Kingdom Records rereleases this album released at first in 1991 in audio cassette. This release has bonuses: 2 Slauter Xstroyers and one of it ended in 2007. the booklet contains pictures of the group, lyrics of the songs but also an interview. The style of the group is a powerful heavy metal with a theatrical site especially in the vocals a little in a King Diamond or Merciful Fate style. Besides Jonathan Stewart has a superb voice, well at place, melodic, having a very varied range, and he can go very high in the notes.
The album begins with « Packin’ A Pistol » with an eerie keyboards intro in an organ manner to be followed with powerful, heavy guitars and we have a very well done solo. It is a very dynamic track and « Blood Money » is also dynamic with a well present and much varied rhythmic section. All through this album we have varied tracks like « Pull The Stake Out » with heavy and rock’n’roll riffs or « Rock’n’Roll » with a very present piano which gives the melody of the song. « Battle Axe » and « Mother Fucker » are tracks at the origin from Slauter Xstroyes. « Broken Winged Angel » is a rather declaimed track with chorus. Without forgetting the superb ballad « My eyes » whatever it is the piano or acoustic guitars version.
At the end it is a very good album that makes us discover here Shadow Kingdom Records with Energy Vampires with well at place musicians who control their instruments and a very good vocalist.
