I had reviewed the first album of the group The Oath, “The End Of Times” released in 2006 that I had appreciate, the group has since changed its line up, at least the vocalist and the guitar player. The style of this second album “4” is still black/death metal with a symphonic side bring by the keyboards. What was revealed excellent in the first album, is confirmed in this second : the group makes an excellent work on the composition level especially on the melodies level and in the changing of rhythmics. The vocals are well at place, a mix of death/black metal, with a very present aggressive side, and oh! Surprise some clear vocals in « A Question Of Faith » that I find superb !!! Superb clear voice ! It is even too bad that the group does not put a little more, it really brings a real plus to the track. The keyboards give superb melodies as well as nice melodic flights. The riffs are sharp, heavy and powerful but sometimes a little too classic.
The Oath, with this album has take maturity on the level of its compositions, even richer than before. It is an album which deserves an attention and a certain listening. It lets presage good things for the years to come for the group.
