Tormenta has just release its EP « Tormenta ». Three musicians, two guitarists and a drummer are composing this group from Bordeaux. If you like instrumental music and worked and technique melodies this EP is for you otherwise go your way, you won’t like it. To enter into this progressive metal even experimental album, you will need several listenings to apprehend all the subtleties because these four tracks are not very accessible.
The melodies are at the same times very worked and technique with ambiences given by the guitars, are mixed skilfully energy and delicacy in the riffs like especially in « Le Retour De La Noyée » with the relatively dark ambience. Each of the tracks has its own story that we can follow depending the changing in rhythm, changing in style with sometimes rather jazzy passages or extreme ones like in « Fièvres et Calculs Morbides » or in the changing of ambiences.
It is clear that we are facing musicians who control their instruments and their technique; they are all members of other groups. Some will say that the rhythmic section is not always powerful and that a bass guitar would not have been too much… all is question of taste and appreciation but it is true that sometimes a bass guitar in some passages would give more “depth”.
This EP goes fast, too fast… It is true that the tracks have an average of 4 minute…
I think that if you like instrumental music Tormenta should not deceive you even if it is too short !!!
