“A Clockwork Heart” is the second album of the English group Nex. The group skilfully mixes metal to rock and punk. The vocals are much varied, clear vocals, screaming, death vocals with rather punk chorus in the refrains. The songs are melodics full of melancholy; this is certainly due to the presence of the piano on some tracks. When listening this album it is clear that the principal influence of the group is Faith No More, even Ed’s vocals have some tones in the Mike Patton’s manner but vocally speaking this vocalist has a very wide vocal range. The tracks are energetic and melodic and the riffs are powerful. The best track of this « A Clockwork Heart », is for me « Phantoms » with heavy riffs, well at place and melodic vocals but « Dansylvania » is not bad either. « Ashes & Embers » is the slower track of this album, with piano which gives the background melody.
