Psycroptic with its album “Ob(servant) » gives us a death metal technique all through the tracks. I have to admit having hard times listening this album as the tracks seem long, much long to me … But it is true that as a whole they are rather long. If the tracks are showing us that we are in front of musicians who control their instruments and who have an undeniable technique, the tracks are lacking of “musicality”, all is in technique, sometimes very sophisticated and worked but the tracks are not catchy, at least for me. The riffs are fast, distorted with frequent changings in rhythm and the rhythmic section is powerful and well at place but I find the drums sound not extraordinary. The vocals are aggressive and furious, you like them or not… I’m in the second category. Without being a bad album, it is not exceptional but the fans of the genre will probably appreciate it.
