“A Dead heavy Day” is the third album from PoisonBlack succeeding to « Lust Stained Despair » released in 2006. The style of the group is confirmed from albums to albums and become heavier and heavier. The tracks from this opus are more or less melancholic. The songs are melodic with rather lively and memorable refrains like on « Bear The Cross » that is easily remembering, with a guitar which has assert itself and which gives good soli. As I said the tracks are heavier, you’ll just have to listen « Diane » or « Left Behind » for example, to be convinced. All through the tracks are spinning around which are becoming sometimes piano like in « A Dead Heavy Day ». Vocally speaking nothing to say, Ville Laihiala ensures perfectly his vocals lines with all of what is needed of melancholy in his voice. However all the compositions are not heavy and powerful, « X » and « Only You Can Tear Me Apart » are here to show us and to give us emotion… whatever in the vocals or in the instrumental.
It is an excellent album that should be appreciated by the gothic metal fans.
