Anticulture Records Released on may 26th 2008
Tracklist « Under The Spell Of The Unlight » : April - Within The Woods May - Why Are They Screaming At Night? June - Åkerspöke July - Cold Fingers August - So I Slept & Slept September - Invoking The Flames (Burn, Burn, Burn) October - Cellar Dweller Novemer - And The Bird Came In December - The Bells Toll My Name January - Dying Breed March - The Call Gloomy Grim is a Finnish symphonic black metal group and « Under The Spell Of The Unlight » is their last opus. The black metal of the group can be connected to the “horror” black metal. The album is composed with 12 titles which each take one month of the year. The keyboards are very important in each of the tracks and give the atmospheric, melodic, melodious and symphonic arrangements, which are not without reminding us at some moments Dimmu Borgir or Cradle Of Filth. However the guitars are also well present and give heavy and worked riffs. The rhythmic section is heavy and powerful and the drums are sometimes giving very fast blasts. The ambiences and atmospheres are also much worked but also very rich, always dark even horrific. The vocals are black metal with sometimes some little incursions towards death metal. Some passages are very melodic and bring a certain melancholy and delicacy like in « July – cold Fingers », with the piano part. Some tracks are relatively epic. Personally I consider this « Under The Spell Of The Unlight » as being a very good album which should deserve an attentive listening because it is much worked and I recommend it to you if you like symphonic black metal.
