Shadrane is a progressive metal group born from the initiative of the French keyboardist Vivien Lalu (Lalu/Hubi Meisel) and « Temporal » is born from this project. To say to this concept album is rich is little to say !!! The compositions are worked to maximum with complex but accessible arrangements and the musicality, the melody are well present. The tracks are progressive, oscillating between rock and metal. For this album Vivien has been surrounded with excellent musicians and vocalists. The brothers Matt and Gregg Bissonette, Joop Wolters, Marco Sfogli, Gary Wehrkamp, Martin LeMar, Björn Jansson, Henrik Bath, Virgil Donati and Göran Edman.
This concept album is the story of an American submarine commandant during the Second World War, who fells in love with a Japanese girl, and a lieutenant becomes jealous…
Each of the vocalists put well in value the concept with their own style. It is with a very nice melody at piano/flute that begins “Temporal” and it is Henrik Bath who begins at vocals … just simply superb. All through the album are mix technique and melody, technique passages at keyboards or guitars and vocals and instrumental melodies. Who ever the vocalist, the vocals parts are successful and well at place. The styles of this album are varied as we have instrumental, symphonic metal, power, and heavy metal and even very speed passages, without forgetting the slower passages, ballads style and the narrative passages and even a rather pop rock passage. Each of the compositions has its own personality and its own feeling.
It is just simply an excellent album, surely complex, much worked but in no case inaccessible. I think that we can consider “Temporal” to be a masterpiece in the progressive metal.
