The Texas Hippie Coalition is a southern hard rock group formed in 2004 and “Pride Of Texas” is their first album. At the first listening I said to myself that it could be approach of the Black Label Society or Lynyrd Skynyrd styles, in dirtier … And after several listenings I would add : a pitch of ZZ Top. The twin guitars are efficient and powerful and the riffs are sharp and powerful and the soli are excellent and well at place, the rhythmic section is heavy and powerful. Big Dad Ritch has appropriated vocals which perfectly go with the style of the group, with an aggressive and old school side. The compositions are classic for the southern style, well done. It is hard to take out one track rather that another one as « Pride Of Texas » is excellent from the beginning to the end. It is a very good southern rock album that the fans of the genre and of the named groups should appreciate.
The album also contains a very good quality DVD with the titles « Leavin » and « Pissed Off And Mad About it ». Just to add that the name of the singer Big Dad Ritch is appropriated … ;)
