« Surprisingly Heavy » from the guitarist Coste Apetrea is a more than varied album musically speaking. The style of this virtuoso guitarist is a progressive metal/rock, sometimes avant-gardiste with jazzy influences but not only. Coste Apetrea’s career begins in the beginning of the 70s and to say that he is a virtuoso in guitars is little to say when listening the tracks of this album. This album mixes very technique parts, others very melodic, heavier, and atmospheric, sometimes with classic influences, others sounding more 70s all being modern at the same times. It is a very rich album musically speaking and the tracks turn of course around guitars, even if some songs are singing, and the work done is huge because taking into much varied influences. To take out one track rather than other of this « Surprisingly Heavy » is not to give tribute to the talent of the guitarist because the compositions are so different one another; the only thing that we can retain it is a progressive, even avant-gardiste side and even very marked fusion.
To discover if you like this musical style because you won’t be deceived if you like creativeness at pure state.
