Sentinel Steel Release : 2007
Tracklist « Darkness Visible » : Words Upon Stone Battle Cry Queen Of The Night Darkness Visible Prophecy Calm Before The Storm Unholy Man Death Is Inevitable Beyond The Edge Of The Flame The Golden Dawn
Sacred Oath is an American dark power metal group formed in 1985 and « Darkness Visible » is the last album of the group released in 2007. The group had release two demos at the beginning, and the first album « A Crystal Vision » was released in 1987. The group has split in 1988 … but comes back more than 20 years later with this album …. And frankly Sacred oath is true to come back on the front scene !!! If you had not known the group in the 80s it is the moment to listen to it because you won’t be certainly not deceived … All through this album classic heavy metal tracks with lively melodies, melodic and powerful riffs, I really like the guitars duo which play very often in harmony. The compositions really sound 80s but the sound is modern. The tracks have changing in rhythmic with excellent soli like especially the one of « Battle Cry ». Some tracks make me think to Iron Maiden, Queensrÿche or Fates Warning in the melodies and the riffs. Rob Thorne’s vocals are excellent, rather high pitched, always well at place and melodic. It is hard to take out one track rather than another one because they all are excellent classic heavy metal compositions, well constructed and melodic with musicians who control their instruments. To be short an excellent power metal album to discover if you haven’t already done it !
Line up : Rob Thorne (chant/guitare) (vocals/guitars) Glen Cruciani (guitare) (guitars) Pete Altieri (basse/backing vocals) (bass/backing vocals) Kenny Evans (batterie) (drums)
