“Dusty Lord” is the first album from Arcanar released in 2006. The style of the group is a mix of death metal, black metal and doom. The vocals are aggressive and guttural. The tracks are melancholic; the keyboards are amplifying this feeling. The compositions are not what I would called simple, they are rather complex even sometimes original, they are in a certain way progressive. The musicians control their instruments and have a certain technique which allow very certainly them to create tracks which very often change in style and in rhythm, going slightly to the power and the heaviness of metal to passages where the piano has the first place like in « Insomnia » and the acoustic passages are following “metal” ones. The guitars are sometimes playing in duo or are, other times, in “opposition”. I admit having appreciated this « Dusty Lord » rightly for the originality and the quality of its compositions even if for me the vocals are not what I prefer. At the end it is a varied album which is rather nice to listen.
