The clavierist Derek Sherinian (former Dream Theater) has released “Molecular Heinosity” his sixth solo album. The style of this album is a progressive and technique metal, there is no doubt on it. The compositions are worked and show us all the technique of the musicians but they are not always accessible … neither the most melodic … too bad. Some passages make me think just simply to some Dream Theater, passages relatively “spacey” like in « Primal Eleven » or « Wings Of Insanity ». Zakk Wylde sings in « So Far Gone », the others are all instrumental tracks. It is besides this track « So Far Gone » that i find the most accessible and the most melodic … the tracks, to be progressive are relatively short as the longest « Primal Eleven » makes more than 7 mn. If you’ll have to recognize that Derek Sherinian possess an undeniable talent for the keyboards, i’m not caught with his progressive style, now it is just a question of taste.
