“Evil Rose” is the seventh album of the Italian group Presence. The style of the group is a worked progressive rock/metal, dark with ambient passages, symphonic or on the contrary powerful. Sophya Baccini, the vocalist, has a lyric, theatrical, dramatic voice which makes sometimes me think to à Ayin Aleph, and she has a very great vocals range. Presence’s music is dark and relatively mysterious and is not very easy of access because the finality of this one is not made at the first listening, neither at the second one … it is clear that the group has a real potential of creation in the manner of writing the compositions and to interpretate them.
The tracks have very frequent rhythmic and ambiences changing, going to piano passages, others rather ambient, others with symphonic arrangements and other passages where the guitars are heavy .and powerful, others where we have divers sounds and noises. The tracks are linked one another nearly like one song and if you do not look where you are you don’t know where you are, you think you still are in the same song but no, you are into the following one … I think that the tracks form a concept unless the two covers, the one of Queen « The Prophet’s Song » and of Rainbow « Gates Of Babylon ». If the two covers are relatively good, the original songs are much better, especially « Gates Of Babylon »… « No Reason Why » is a ballad with ambient keyboards and piano which shows us a superb voice. « Evil Rose » is an album with complex compositions, rich in arrangements and in ambiences and if you like to discover music of quality listen to this album.
