“Ravenous” is the fifth opus of the Swedish group Wolf and is following to « The Black Flame » released in 2006 that I had reviewed in those times. The group plays a classic heavy metal which takes its sources in the 80s. Since the first track « Speed On » and this to the very end of the album we can feel the influences of the group (especially Iron Maiden) especially in the playings and in the harmonies of the guitars. « Speed On » sends us right in the 80s, fast track with guitars playing in harmony and excellent solo. « Curse You Salem » has an oriental side especially in the soli. « Voodoo » makes me a little think to a track of Mercyful Fate in the manner of singing. In the self named song « Ravenous » we have a solo from Hank Shermann (Mercyful Fate/Force Of Evil) and on « Love At First Bite », Mark Boals (former Malmsteen) does the choirs. « Mr Twisted » is fast and efficient. The compositions are melodic but still keep a little aggressive side, the guitars are efficient and heavy and the playing of these ones is excellent with good harmonies and the soli well done. I like very much Niklas’s voice, a little aggressive and nasal but which know to keep a melodic side. The album ends with a relatively dark « Blood Angel ».
For me this « Ravenous » is a good, balanced, well heavy album that I can just recommend to you.
