Circle Of Hate is a french band, born in 2004 whose aim is to create a kinda unhealthy & dark music, clearly into the old-Death/Doom vein. This release is their first demo, including 4 songs and I have to say this first attempt is really well made ! Though one cannot say this demo is something outstanding, it has real attractive elements that will for sure please all the die-hard Death-Doom maniacs praising bands like old-My Dying Bride, Ceremonium, old-Paradise lost, early Cathedral but also Autopsy, Asphyx, Carnage or still NunSlaughter for the very raw Death-Metal touch. Don’t expect here keyboards or female vocals, the style here is the most Death/Doom orthodox tradition… Riffs are really oppressive, rhythms really heavy even if from time to time some tempo-changes appear here and there as to make us feel more tormented ! The vocals are very low, raw & scorched. Desolation & pain really haunt us ! However some very interesting touches like the guitar harmonies bring to the band a very personal touch and makes that the songs, long & slow, dark & painful, are never boring. Definitely, this is a real surprise from Circle Of Hate, especially when this style is not very popular in France. I’m sure this band would have been cult now (a bit like Mutilated) if they got formed in the late 80’s/beginning of the 90’s… for now, all those into old-school Death/Doom can support this band, they can’t be disappointed !
