Demolition/Underclass 10/2009
Here comes again W.A.S.P. with its new album “Babylon” two years after “Dominator”. The group takes the same recipe, nice melodies, good riffs and good musicians and a good vocalist and you’ll have the album. “Babylon is well balanced, between hard rock songs, catchies melodies, imparable refrains and sometimes songs which are heavy enough to be heavy metal ones “Babylone’s Burning”, of course the ballades “Into The Fire”. You’ll find two covers “Burn” from Deep Purple and “Promised Land” from Chuck Berry. Vocally speaking Blackie Lawless has lost nothing of his superb, still having is superb vocal range. Sure you won’t find anything new, W.A.S.P. (Blackie Lawless as he is the only original member left) continues to do what he knows to do, nothing more, and nothing less. Doug Blair gives us good riffs and good soli and he shows us what he is able to do with his instrument especially on the soli. This is an album which will not be deceiving the old school fans. The album has the benefit of a good production for the instruments as well as for the voice. Well, as a whole, I’m happy to have listened to this album and to have to review it. I hope you will have the same pleasure listening to it.
