Spinefarm Records The album “From Afar” from the group Ensiferum begins with a calm opening at guitars, also with folk instruments, all in softness and delicateness but we enter into the Ensiferum’s world with the second one “From Afar” with a rather well done little symphonic side. The tracks are well linked one to another. The compositions are shared between fast and aggressive songs, others much more folk ones, heavy ones or even symphonic ones. There are a lot of beautiful instrumental parts, very often done with keyboards but also real folk instruments. The vocals are still are aggressive and well placed as before and choirs are coming supporting the vocalist in the refrain. The melodies are lively and the refrains raging and the orchestrations are well worked. The strangest song of this album is “Stone Cold Metal” with its different styles within the song, symphonic, epic, western Italian style music, using of a banjo, etc...
