InsideOut Music/Replica Records

Jim Matheos and Kevin Moore have come back with their new album "Blood" O.S.I. is for the Office Of Strategic Influence. Mike Portnoy (Dream Theater) lets his place at drums to Gavin Harrison (Porcupine Tree). As a guest we have Mikael Åkerfeldt (Opeth) who sings on « Stockholm ». The style of O.S.I. is a mix of rock prog/rock electro ambient and atmospheric. Is it the best album of the group? I don’t know, they are different as well as the progressive side. The compositions are much worked and modern, maybe not always easy in their accessibility. The group uses a lot of electronics, more than in their albums, in some songs which make them “cold”and other times the music can use saturated guitars. . The songs are dark in their lyrics as well as the music can be delicate and dark. O.S.I. still knows to avoid too much technique to the detriment of music and melodies. The album has the benefit of a good recording. There is no doubt that the musicians know and control their instruments. If you like progressive music it is surely an album that you won’t miss.
