"Die Hasslichen Kinder" is the ninth album of the German group Schelmish. I have to admit with shame that I did not know the group before! The songs are a mix of rock, punk (the group says that but I did not heard much punk parts except on “Die hässlichen Kinder”), and folk parts. The group uses folk instruments mixed with “metal” instruments”. The compositions are well done but not exceptional, they are festive, nice to listen but they aren’t the best ones I heard this year. The voice has nothing exceptional neither but goes pretty well with the songs. Sometimes the vocalist can sang very strong and loud with clean vocals, other times he can scream loud and he is often supported by choir. If you really want to listen something really folk just listen “For The Clansmen”, with pipes and drums. At the end a non exceptional album which is hard to be demark from the other ones of the style.
