Kypck (Kursk) is a doom/down tempo Finnish group and “Cherno” will be released in a few weeks. The songs are sing in Russian, which is not common… the atmospheres of the tracks are powerful and dark. The riffs are slow and rather in the low tones. The Russian vocals could disconcert at the first listening but it turns out to be well adapted to the songs and is not “disturbing”. The vocals are well in harmony with the different songs and are relatively well varied. Even if the rhythmic are nearly identical we never have the feeling of hearing the same track because the group finds little elements which allow some little variations? The rhythmic section is heavy, slow with constant rhythms but the bass guitar could be heard more. The guitars very often give repetitive melodies which appear and disappear along the tracks, giving a rhythm to the songs.
It is a well done album but in not way revolutionary with simple rhythmic and heavy riffs which give rather interesting and well done melodic layers. Besides two tracks which are more than 7 minute length « The Black Hole » and « Demon » the songs are relatively short but the ambiences are always dark.
A solid album which deserves a careful listening.
