The German group Athorn has just released its first album “Phobia”. The style of the group is a mix of power/thrash/death and melodic metal. And to all this you can even add a progressive side. The members are coming from different groups just to play music without regarding the style they will do. The influences of Athorn are the classic German groups. The compositions are strong and in great majority powerful and energetic, except “The Prologue” which is an instrumental interlude. Vocally speaking is it much varied with clean vocals, growls and even a rather harsh voice. The group is often compared to Nevermore, and it’s true that this influence is much present, maybe too much. The fans of the style and of Nevermore should appreciate this album”.
