Groza is the solo project from Bahadir Uludaglar, vocalist and guitarist of the Turkish black metal group Moribund Oblivion. The style of this project is a mix of dark/black metal.
All through the tracks of this album the atmospheres are dark and melancholic. It is mostly the keyboards, with their melodic, atmospheric and melancholic layers which give the ambiences and the different atmospheres, however the guitar gives very heavy, powerful and fast passages and when both (guitars and keyboards) are mixed, we have powerful and melodic passages at the same times like in « Ruhumdan Taneler Savruldu ». It is Bahadir who gives most of the vocals on the tracks but we also have female vocals interpreted by Eylül on the tracks « Geçmisin Kasvetli Isleri », « Fisiltilar Seni Söyler » and « « Geride Kalan Yillarim » and also male vocals with Oguzhan in the fourth track. All this gives very varied vocals, because Bahadir, besides the black metal vocals, sings in clear vocals. Moreover his voice is not too shrill neither too high pitched so it does it pretty well and his clear vocals are rather good.
The compositions are much worked with good arrangements and the changing in rhythmic appropriated. Moreover there is a good harmony between the instruments especially the guitar and the keyboards. It is too bad that we do not have the translation of the lyrics in English as they are in Turkish except the last three ones in English and German, knowing that the approached themes of the previous album where dealing with the decisions that people were taking on their lives and their life after the life… album that was dedicated to the memory of the Bosnian people who died during the war. I admit having appreciated this album for its musical and vocals qualities.
An album to discover and to appreciate.
