The "Tygers Sessions: The First Wave" CD will be released on February 28, 2015, and will include thick booklet with lyrics, liner notes, and lot of previously unseen pictures. Commented TYGERS OF PAN TANG founding member and guitarist, Robb Weir, "I am very proud of the band's history as well as the current lineup. We should never forget the TYGERS history and hope this shows we will always recognise the early days of the band. There are a lot of bands that want to modernise their sound or image and forget what made them great in the beginning… I am not one of them". "We are very pleased with the end result, in particular with the recorded sound achieved, it really does capture the early '80s NWOBHM spirit and feel we were looking for. To achieve that raw, almost 'live' vibe to the sound, we even replicated the microphone positioning that was used on the original recording" he adds.

In other news, TYGERS OF PAN TANG confirmed several new tour dates !

DARKING is an Italian Epic/Heavy Metal act formed in 2005 by Agostino Carpo, who along with Enrico Paoli was founding member of the cult Epic Metal band DOMINE, and recorded with them three demo materials between 1986 and 1991. DARKING's debut album titled "Sons Of Steel" came out in 2010, and now in 2015 the band returns with their new output titled "Steal The Fire". The album is full of epic melodies known so well from DOMINE, and even includes unusual tribute to Carpo's first band, in form of DOMINE cover "Stormbringer". Most recently the band also appeared on the "Italian Tribute To OMEN" compilation, and on the STRANA OFFICINA tribute album for which they recorded new version of the song titled "The Ritual", with guest appearance of the BURNING STARR and ex-VIRGIN STEELE guitar wizard Jack Starr.

New Promo Clip Of The NWOBHM Godfathers QUARTZ Posted Online ! PDF Print E-mail

Originating from Birmingham, England, QUARTZ date back to 1974, and were considered to be at the forefront of the New Wave Of British Heavy Metal. On January 31, 2015, Skol Records released "Too Hot To Handle" CD, which can be considered as a complete unreleased album from back in the day, as it's a collection of 16 previously unreleased songs recorded between 1981 and 1982. Some of those tracks were re-recorded in different versions for the "Against All Odd's" album (1983), and some of them see the light of the day for the first time ever. QUARTZ released their first same titled album, which was produced by Tony Iommi of BLACK SABBATH, on Jet Records in 1977. The band toured heavily during this time, playing the Reading Festival three times (1976, 1977 and 1980) and touring with of some of the larger Heavy Metal bands of the time, incl. IRON MAIDEN, SAXON, UFO and RUSH. Late 1979 saw Geoff Nicholls leave the band to join the legendary BLACK SABBATH, providing keyboards and songwriting for them for the next 24 years. Incidently in 1980 Malcolm Cope was approached by OZZY OSBOURNE to join his solo band, but declined stating QUARTZ was his band, and they had just signed a deal with MCA to record "Stand Up And Fight". 1983 brought the release of "Against All Odd's" which had been partly written with vocalist David Garner, and the departing Derek Arnold had been replaced by Steven McLoughlin. Prior to the final recording of the opus, David Garner was replaced by Geoff Bate, whose vocals appear on the album. During this period Malcolm Cope also joined the roll call of QUARTZ members being called up to BLACK SABBATH, working on pre-production demos for the "Born Again" album. QUARTZ reformed in 2011, and the current line up consist of: Geoff Nicholls on guitars and keyboards, Mick Hopkins on guitars, Derek Arnold on bass, Malcolm Cope on drums, and vocalist David Garner.

MAGIC KINGDOM to release "Savage Requiem" on March 20th on AFM Records ! PDF Print E-mail
Written by Fab
Sunday, 01 February 2015 23:03

Belgian guitarist Dushan Petrossi is not only the driving force behind AFM Records-signed IRON MASK; he is also the mastermind of power symphonic speed metal band MAGIC KINGDOM. Actually it was MAGIC KINGDOM who first received international success, in Europe, Asia and South America alike. Even though the band only looks back on three album releases (with the fourth, ‘Savage Requiem’ to arrive on March 20th in the EU / April 14th in the US), these albums - especially the latter ones ‘Metallic Tragedy’ and “Symphony Of War’ established them as one of the most successful bands of their genre. And while Petrossi’s band IRON MASK, which came to blossom in recent years, follows a more hard rock-oriented style to combine with some neo-classical elements, MAGIC KINGDOM is more heavy and fast-paced, but not a single bit less enchanting and catchy..

‘Savage Requiem’ again delivers 100% what fans expect from MAGIC KINGDOM. Petrossi’s splendid guitar work shines throughout the whole record and new vocalist Christian Palin’s (ex-Adagio) performance is passionate and powerful. "I love Christian’s style of singing”, Petrossi says. “He always gives 100% and doesn’t hold back. I feel that the new songs needed someone like Christian to come alive. We are very glad that he is a part of Magic Kingdom now”. “I’m sure that we can release new MAGIC KINGDOM albums more regularly from now on”, Petrossi speaks out in the run-up to ‘Savage Requiem’. “I’m very proud of what we created and I wish that our fans will have an equal kind of joy when they listen to the album”..

'Savage Requiem' tracklisting :

01. In Umbra Mea
02. Guardian Angels
03. Rivals Forever
04. Full Moon Sacrifice
05. Ship Of Ghosts
06. Savage Requiem
07. Four Demon Kings Of Shadowlands
08. With Fire And Sword
09. Dragon Princess
10. Battlefield Magic

BLACK MAJESTY "Stargazer" CD coming out this week via Limb Music ! PDF Print E-mail
Written by Fab
Thursday, 19 July 2012 16:41

Australia's high decibel Metal scene is subject to certain rules. Because of the immense distance many of the hundreds of promising newcomers on the Australian scene never make it across the pond. The few combos who do manage to make the trip to Europe are a huge enhancement for the European scene. BLACK MAJESTY is one such band and, with four albums under their belt, have proved that groups from down under can easily match themselves against their colleagues of the Old World and enjoy an ever-growing number of fans of their own. Melodic Power Metal is nothing new these days, but it is the little things such as an innate knack for musical finesses, which raises a band from the rest of the scene. Superb Power Metal with lots of melodies, finely spun prog elements and a huge portion of sheer joy and unbroken enthusiasm are the chief characteristics of "Stargazer". As self-confident as they were on their previous albums, BLACK MAJESTY are looking forward to a new step in their creativity.

On their fifth album BLACK MAJESTY celebrate an impressive mixture of all the unforgettable elements of its predecessors. In a more than worthy manner, "Stargazer" follows the musical line of the highly-praised "In Your Honour". Roland Grapow has again given the album a transparent, crystal clear mix, which even manages to enhance the great hymns by the Australians. On "Stargazer" BLACK MAJESTY demonstrate all the aspects of their unmistakable style and make an impressive statement on the subject of melodic Power Metal. The German edition of the album has a bonus track, "Shine" beside the nine regular tracks, which is replaced by "Ariel" on the Australian issue and by "Lycan" on the Japanese edition. Once again the band worked together with Dirk Illing, known from his work for Scorpions etc, for the concept and the design of the cover. Illing has done his work well and has given the album the perfect look.

Legendary MASSACRE (USA) returns !!! PDF Print E-mail

21 years after the release of "From Beyond" and the huge impact it had on the rising death metal movement, MASSACRE is back with a vengeance: a new 7" Ep entitled "Condemned To The Shadows" featuring 2 new tracks ("Back From Beyond" and "Succumb To Rapture") to be released on Monday 30 of July, a few days before the band's live show at this year's Wacken Open Air (August 2nd - 4th).

Rick Rozz (guitars), Terry Butler (bass), Mike Mazzonetto (drums) and Ed Webb (vocals) teamed up with Tim Vazquez of CGM Studios, Florida as far as recording, mixing and mastering was concerned and with Richard Schouten as far as the aesthetic aspect of things was concerned. The result is a brilliant 7" Ep which will definitely show the world that MASSACRE is back with genuine death metal, the way it was meant when Mantas, Possessed and a few other acts defined the standards of the genre. Check out "Succumb To Rapture" and judge by yourself !

After their trip to Germany, the guys will start working hard on a new album to be released worldwide on Century Media Records in early 2013.

Original guitarist Doug Piercy rejoins ANVIL CHORUS ! PDF Print E-mail
Written by Fab
Saturday, 14 July 2012 22:42

Anvil Chorus guitarist Thaen Rasmussen and bassist/vocalist Aaron Zimpel have rejoined forces with former 80s classic line-up guitarist Doug Piercy (ex-Heathen). The SF bay-area guitar team of Rasmussen and Piercy was one of the greatest under the radar metal duos of the 80s. The first explosive performance of this newly reunited guitar team was back on February 24th when they played with Death Angel at Slims in San Francisco.

The group is currently working on the follow up to 2009's phenomenal return to action, "The Killing Sun." While this album featured original tracks written during the band's 80s heyday, the new album will contain all newly written tracks such as Solar Flux, Blood Memory, Colossus, Moonstroke and more and promises to be another thundering release that solidly establishes the group's return.

Watch for the long-awaited double vinyl release of "The Killing Sun" coming later in 2012 !
